How Does DDP Shipping from China to Amazon FBA Work?

Under the DDP Incoterm, the seller carries extensive responsibility for transportation, import clearance, duties and delivery to the named place. In day-to-day freight quotations, sellers also use “DDP shipping” as shorthand for a forwarder-managed, duty-paid door-to-door service. A good DDP arrangement gives one provider operational control without hiding the responsibilities of the other parties. The following map helps prevent the common assumption that “the forwarder handles everything” means the seller no longer needs to provide accurate information.

The freight forwarder cannot guarantee admission for prohibited, incorrectly described or undeclared cargo. Likewise, successful delivery to the Amazon dock does not guarantee that Amazon will make the inventory available for sale immediately.

What Should an Amazon FBA DDP Quote Include?

A transparent provider identifies costs that depend on events outside the normal plan. If the sale genuinely uses DDP Incoterms 2020, the seller’s import-duty obligation under that contract does not disappear merely because a freight quote labels an item “excluded.” Any unusual cost allocation between the commercial parties must be made explicit and reviewed against the sale terms.

A low quotation is not automatically improper. Different providers may use different routings, consolidation schedules, carrier contracts and destination networks.
