In This Guide
DDP shipping from China to Amazon FBA USA can simplify an international shipment when the service scope is clearly defined before the cargo leaves China. Instead of coordinating separate pickup, freight, customs, duty payment and final-delivery providers, the seller receives one reviewed landed-delivery plan.
However, DDP should not be treated as a vague promise that “everything is included.” A reliable DDP arrangement must explain customs responsibility, duty scope, Importer of Record planning, product eligibility, declared value, final Amazon warehouse delivery and the costs that remain conditional.
This page focuses only on the DDP structure for Amazon FBA shipments. It does not replace our general guide to shipping from China to Amazon FBA, which compares express, air and sea freight. It also does not replace our Amazon FBA shipping cost from China to USA guide, which explains rates, warehouse zones, palletization and final-delivery charges.
Need an Amazon FBA DDP quote? Send your product details, supplier location, carton data, cargo value, Amazon fulfillment center code and required delivery time through our contact page. VoltFreight will review whether air DDP or sea DDP is suitable and confirm the service scope before booking.
What Does DDP Shipping to Amazon FBA Mean?
DDP to Amazon FBA means the shipment is arranged under an agreed duty-paid delivery scope from a Chinese supplier or warehouse to the assigned Amazon fulfillment center.
Depending on the quotation, the service may include:
- Supplier pickup or China warehouse receiving
- China export handling
- Air freight or sea freight
- Destination customs-clearance coordination
- Import-duty handling under the reviewed product details
- Destination transfer or warehouse handling
- Final delivery to the assigned Amazon fulfillment center
- Appointment coordination when the delivery method requires it
The term “DDP” alone is not enough. The seller should receive a written explanation of what is included, what is excluded and which charges can change if customs, Amazon or the physical cargo creates an exception.
DDP Responsibility Map for Amazon FBA
A practical DDP plan separates the responsibilities of the seller, supplier, freight forwarder, customs parties and Amazon.
| Party | Main Responsibility | Important Limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon seller | Provides accurate product, value, shipment and warehouse information | The seller remains responsible for truthful cargo and compliance details |
| China supplier | Prepares the goods, cartons and requested commercial documents | The supplier should not change carton data or product details after the quotation without notice |
| Freight forwarder | Coordinates the reviewed pickup, freight, customs and final-delivery scope | The forwarder cannot guarantee clearance for undeclared, prohibited or incorrectly described cargo |
| Customs broker or import network | Handles import-entry procedures under the agreed customs structure | Customs authorities may still inspect, question or reclassify the shipment |
| Amazon fulfillment center | Receives inventory that follows the shipment and delivery requirements | Amazon does not correct import documents or accept every delivery without conditions |
A reliable DDP provider should explain these responsibilities before the seller pays the freight charge. Unclear responsibility is one of the main reasons an apparently low DDP quote becomes expensive later.
What Should an Amazon FBA DDP Quote Include?
A professional DDP quotation should describe the complete agreed service rather than showing only a rate per kilogram, cubic meter or container.
China Origin Services
The quote should state whether it includes:
- Pickup from the supplier
- Delivery to a China consolidation warehouse
- Warehouse receiving and basic carton verification
- Export handling and documentation
- Origin terminal, airline or port charges
If the order comes from several suppliers, the quotation should also explain whether each pickup and the consolidation step are included.
Air or Sea Freight
The quotation should identify:
- Air DDP or sea DDP
- LCL or FCL for ocean shipments
- Chargeable weight, CBM, pallet or container basis
- Estimated planning time
- Route or service type
- Rate-validity period
The rate should be based on final cargo data whenever possible. Factory estimates can be used for initial planning, but the price may change after final packing.
Customs and Duty Scope
The quotation should explain:
- Whether customs brokerage is included
- Whether normal import duties are included
- Whether additional tariffs have been reviewed
- Whether the duty scope depends on the declared product details
- What happens if customs changes the classification or value
- Whether inspections or special trade-remedy duties are excluded
Final Amazon Delivery
The quote should confirm:
- The Amazon fulfillment center code used for pricing
- Whether delivery is by parcel, LTL, FTL or container
- Whether appointment coordination is included
- Whether warehouse transfer, devanning or palletization is included
- Whether proof of delivery will be provided
A quotation that stops at a U.S. airport, port or transfer warehouse is not a complete Amazon FBA DDP quotation.
What May Be Excluded from a DDP Quote?
Even a properly arranged DDP shipment can create conditional charges. A transparent provider should disclose these risks before booking whenever possible.
- Customs examination: Customs may select the shipment for scanning, inspection or document review.
- Duty or tariff adjustment: The classification, declared value or tariff treatment may change after review.
- Anti-dumping or countervailing duty: Some products can fall within special trade-remedy rules.
- Storage: Cargo may remain at a port, airport, bonded facility or delivery warehouse beyond the included free period.
- Waiting time: The final truck may wait longer than the time included in the delivery rate.
- Redelivery: Amazon may reject, reschedule or be unable to receive the shipment.
- Palletization or repacking: Cargo may not be ready for the required final-delivery method.
- Remote or special warehouse delivery: The assigned fulfillment center may require a longer or more complex final route.
- Incorrect cargo information: Actual weight, dimensions, value or product type may differ from the quotation.
- Product-compliance exceptions: Additional testing, permits or supporting documents may be required.
A professional quotation does not pretend that every possible exception fits inside one fixed rate. Instead, it clearly separates the normal service scope from conditional events.
Importer of Record, Duties and Customs Responsibility
Importer of Record planning is one of the most important parts of DDP shipping to Amazon FBA.
Amazon fulfillment centers should not be listed or treated as the seller’s Importer of Record. Amazon receives inventory, but it does not replace the seller’s international import structure.
Who Can Act as the Importer?
The customs arrangement must be reviewed before booking. Depending on the seller, product and destination service, the structure may involve:
- The seller’s U.S. importing entity
- The seller’s approved customs broker
- Another reviewed import arrangement within the destination service network
The correct structure depends on the transaction and product. It should not be assumed from the word “DDP.”
Information the Seller Must Provide
The seller must provide accurate information, including:
- Product name and clear commercial description
- Material and intended use
- Country of origin
- Manufacturer or supplier information when required
- Commercial value
- HS or HTS code if available
- Product photos and technical information
- Certificates or supporting documents when applicable
DDP does not remove the seller’s obligation to provide truthful information. If the cargo is described incorrectly or the declared value does not match the commercial transaction, the customs plan may fail even after the freight charge has been paid.
HTS Codes and Duty Scope
The landed cost depends on product classification and declared value. A quotation based only on weight and dimensions cannot reliably confirm the customs scope.
Before issuing a final DDP rate, the forwarder may need to review:
- The proposed HTS classification
- The normal import-duty rate
- Possible additional tariffs on China-origin products
- Product-specific agency requirements
- Possible anti-dumping or countervailing-duty exposure
- Whether the commercial value and invoice appear reasonable
Products with special tariff exposure should not be accepted under a simple “all tax included” promise without a proper review.
For a broader explanation of classification, tariffs and customs fees, read our import tax from China to USA guide. General customs support is explained on our customs clearance service page.
Which Products Are Suitable for Amazon FBA DDP?
DDP is usually easier to arrange for normal commercial goods with clear product descriptions, stable classification and no unusual compliance requirements.
Often Suitable After Standard Review
Examples may include:
- Simple household and storage products
- Basic plastic and metal accessories
- General retail inventory
- Simple textile accessories
- Non-regulated consumer products
These goods still require an invoice, packing list, product description, value and destination review.
Suitable Only After Additional Review
The following products should be declared before a quotation is confirmed:
- Lithium batteries and battery-powered products
- Wireless devices and electronics
- Liquids, powders, chemicals and aerosols
- Cosmetics, food and food-contact products
- Medical-related products
- Toys and children’s products
- Textiles with labeling requirements
- Wood products or solid-wood packaging
- Branded products
- Used goods
For these products, sellers may need to provide photos, material details, intended use, product links, MSDS or battery specifications, supplier invoice drafts and available certificates.
High-Risk Duty or Trade-Remedy Products
Goods with possible anti-dumping, countervailing-duty or other special tariff exposure require formal review before booking.
“Case by case” does not automatically mean the cargo cannot ship. It means the forwarder needs enough product and customs information before confirming DDP.
A provider that quotes sensitive cargo without asking product questions is not performing a serious DDP review.
Air DDP vs Sea DDP to Amazon FBA
Air DDP and sea DDP solve different inventory problems. This page explains the service structure rather than publishing detailed live rate ranges.
Air DDP
Air DDP is commonly used for:
- Urgent replenishment
- Product-launch inventory
- Compact and higher-value cargo
- Medium-size shipments that cannot wait for sea freight
The charging basis normally depends on chargeable weight. Large but lightweight cartons can create a higher volumetric-weight calculation.
Sea DDP LCL
Sea DDP LCL is commonly used for planned small-to-medium bulk inventory that does not fill a container.
The quote should clearly explain destination deconsolidation, customs handling, warehouse transfer, palletization and final Amazon delivery.
Sea DDP FCL
Sea DDP FCL is usually more suitable for high-volume or container-level inventory.
The landed-delivery plan may require:
- Container drayage
- Devanning
- Palletization
- LTL or FTL delivery
- Amazon appointment coordination
For detailed route prices, warehouse zones and final-delivery cost factors, review our Amazon FBA shipping cost from China to USA guide.
The broader comparison among express, standard air freight, LCL and FCL belongs in our main China-to-Amazon-FBA shipping guide.
Final Delivery and Amazon Appointment Scope
DDP is not complete when the shipment only reaches a U.S. port, airport or local transfer warehouse. The final Amazon delivery stage must be confirmed.
The final method may involve:
- Small-parcel delivery for smaller carton shipments
- LTL delivery for palletized inventory
- FTL delivery for larger pallet loads
- Container delivery for selected FCL shipments
- Warehouse transfer and palletization before final delivery
The seller should provide:
- Amazon shipment ID
- Fulfillment center code
- Complete warehouse address
- Carton or pallet quantity
- Final weight and dimensions
- FBA box label files when requested
The warehouse code affects final-delivery distance, carrier selection, appointment planning and possible remote-area charges.
A quotation without the final fulfillment center code should be treated as an estimate. The price should be reconfirmed after Amazon assigns the destination.
What DDP Does Not Replace
DDP covers a reviewed transportation, customs and delivery structure. It does not replace every task required for a successful Amazon shipment.
DDP Does Not Replace Product Compliance
The seller must still confirm whether the product can legally enter the United States and whether certificates, registrations, warnings or labels are required.
DDP Does Not Replace Accurate Commercial Documents
The commercial invoice, packing list, cargo value and product description must match the actual transaction and physical goods.
DDP Does Not Replace FBA Prep
Detailed inspection, FNSKU labeling, polybagging, bundling, kitting, repacking and carton replacement are separate prep services.
When the supplier’s preparation requires additional control, review our Amazon FBA prep service in China.
DDP Does Not Guarantee Amazon Receiving Time
A shipment can be delivered successfully but still wait for Amazon to process and receive the inventory.
Freight delivery and inventory becoming available for sale are separate stages.
How to Review a DDP Quote Before Booking
Use this checklist before accepting a DDP quotation:
- Confirm the exact product. The quote should be based on the actual product, material, intended use and value.
- Confirm the charging basis. Check whether the rate uses chargeable weight, CBM, pallets or a full container.
- Confirm the customs scope. Ask which duties, tariffs and brokerage services are included.
- Confirm the importer structure. Do not assume Amazon will act as the importer.
- Confirm the final Amazon destination. Provide the fulfillment center code and complete address.
- Confirm the final delivery method. Ask whether parcel, LTL, FTL or container delivery is included.
- Confirm appointment handling. Check whether appointment coordination is included when required.
- Confirm conditional charges. Ask about customs exams, storage, waiting time, redelivery and palletization.
- Confirm rate validity. Freight and customs estimates may change if booking is delayed.
- Confirm the exception process. Ask who communicates with customs, the transfer warehouse and the final carrier.
The lowest DDP rate is not automatically the best rate. The better quotation is the one with the clearest responsibilities and the fewest unpriced stages.
Red Flags in a Cheap Amazon FBA DDP Quote
Be cautious when:
- The provider does not ask for the product name, use or photos.
- The quote says “all taxes included” without checking classification or value.
- The provider suggests listing Amazon as the importer.
- The quotation does not request the fulfillment center code.
- The service ends at a local warehouse but is described as Amazon delivery.
- No one explains the appointment, redelivery or rejection process.
- The provider asks for an unrealistic customs value.
- The product is sensitive, but no MSDS, battery, certificate or compliance information is requested.
- The quotation has no validity period or included-service list.
- The provider cannot explain who handles a customs or final-delivery exception.
A professional review may take longer than an instant per-kilogram quote, but it reduces the risk of customs, storage and delivery problems after the cargo has already left China.
DDP Planning Example
Consider an Amazon seller shipping 16 cartons of consumer products from Shenzhen to a fulfillment center in Pennsylvania.
The shipment weighs approximately 239.5 kg and measures about 1.18 CBM.
Before quoting DDP, the forwarder should review:
- The exact product and cargo value
- The proposed HTS classification
- Whether additional tariffs may apply
- Carton dimensions and air chargeable weight
- The assigned Amazon fulfillment center code
- Whether the cargo is urgent enough for air DDP
- Whether sea DDP provides a more suitable landed cost
- The final delivery method and appointment requirements
If the seller needs the stock urgently, air DDP may protect sales but produce a higher cost per unit. If enough inventory remains available, sea DDP may be more economical.
The final decision should compare landed cost with stockout risk.
The important point is that the quotation cannot be completed accurately with only “239.5 kg to the USA.” Product details, cargo value, dimensions and the exact Amazon destination are also required.

FAQ: DDP Shipping from China to Amazon FBA
Does DDP to Amazon FBA include import duties?
It can include normal import duties under the agreed product details and quotation scope. Sellers should confirm whether additional tariffs, customs brokerage, duty changes and special trade-remedy charges are included or excluded.
Can Amazon act as the Importer of Record?
Amazon fulfillment centers should not be listed or treated as the Importer of Record for the seller’s imported inventory. The importer and customs structure must be arranged before shipping.
Is air DDP or sea DDP better for Amazon FBA?
Air DDP is generally better for urgent or compact replenishment. Sea DDP is generally better for planned, bulky or larger shipments where unit cost matters more than speed.
Does DDP include Amazon appointment delivery?
It should only be considered included when the quotation confirms the final fulfillment center, delivery method and appointment scope. A vague “door delivery” statement is not enough.
Can every product ship DDP to Amazon FBA?
No. General cargo is usually easier to review, while batteries, electronics, cosmetics, food-contact products, children’s goods, medical-related products, branded goods and products with trade-remedy risk require additional checks.
