Door-to-Door Shipping from China: Pickup, Customs & Delivery
Move cargo from your supplier in China to your business, warehouse, 3PL or Amazon facility through one coordinated freight plan. VoltFreight arranges pickup, export handling, international transport, customs coordination and final-mile delivery by express, air, sea or rail.
How the Door-to-Door Freight Process Works
Door-to-door freight connects supplier pickup, origin handling, international transport, customs coordination and final delivery in one planned sequence. Each stage still has its own documents, cutoff times and compliance checks, so accurate cargo data should be confirmed before pickup.
Supplier Pickup
We coordinate collection from a factory, supplier, sourcing agent or nominated warehouse in China.
China Warehouse
Cargo can be received, counted, measured, photographed, consolidated, labeled and prepared for the selected freight method.
Export Handling
Commercial and packing data are reviewed before freight booking, export declaration and origin customs handling.
International Freight
Express, air, sea, rail or multimodal transport is selected according to the cargo, destination, deadline and total cost.
Customs Coordination
Import clearance, importer requirements and duty responsibility are confirmed according to the written DDP, DAP or other agreed scope.
Final Delivery
After customs release, the shipment is delivered to the agreed warehouse, business, residence, 3PL or Amazon FBA destination.
Door-to-door describes where the transport service starts and ends. It does not automatically mean that import duty, VAT, GST or every destination charge is included. The quotation must state the named destination, importer, customs scope and excluded charges.
What Door-to-Door Shipping from China Includes
A complete China door-to-door shipping plan can begin at your supplier’s loading point and finish at the overseas address you name. The exact scope depends on the freight method, destination, product category and agreed Incoterm. For broader origin planning, see our China freight forwarding services.
Pickup from one or multiple suppliers
Goods can be collected from separate factories and combined at a China warehouse before export.
Warehouse receiving and cargo verification
Carton quantity, gross weight, dimensions, labels and packing condition can be checked when included in the service.
Export documentation and freight booking
Cargo information is prepared for the selected carrier, shipping route and China export procedure.
Import customs and tax planning
The importer, customs-clearance method and duty responsibility are reviewed before the cargo leaves China.
Delivery appointment and final transportation
Depending on the destination, delivery may be completed by parcel courier, pallet network, local truck or dedicated vehicle.
Four Door-to-Door Shipping Methods from China
The best method depends on more than transit time. Chargeable weight, shipment volume, cargo sensitivity, delivery postcode, customs requirements and the cost of running out of stock all affect the route.
Express Door-to-Door
DHL, UPS, FedEx and selected courier channels provide fast, standardized delivery for eligible samples, replacement parts and smaller cartons.
- Fast integrated delivery network
- End-to-end tracking
- Suitable for smaller shipments
- Chargeable weight must be checked
Air Freight Door-to-Door
Door-to-door air freight suits time-sensitive commercial shipments that need more routing control or capacity than standard courier service.
- Suitable for urgent commercial cargo
- Airport-to-door and full door service
- Flexible airline and route selection
- Useful for inventory replenishment
Sea Freight Door-to-Door
Door-to-door sea freight uses LCL for smaller volumes and FCL for container-scale shipments such as pallets, machinery, furniture and planned inventory.
- LCL for smaller shared-container cargo
- FCL for full container shipments
- Lower cost per unit for bulky goods
- Commercial and warehouse delivery
Rail and Truck Door-to-Door
Rail and truck freight from China can balance transit time and cost on eligible China–Europe, Russia and Eurasian inland routes.
- Selected European destinations
- Russia and Eurasian routes
- Rail plus local truck delivery
- Suitable for eligible commercial cargo
Which Door-to-Door Freight Option Fits Your Cargo?
Use this comparison for initial planning. The shipment-specific quotation should be the basis for booking because capacity, local charges and cargo acceptance can change by route.
| Cargo Requirement | Recommended Option | Main Advantage | Key Point to Check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Samples and small parcels | Express courier | Fast and simple delivery | Volumetric weight and product acceptance |
| Urgent commercial cargo | Air freight | Better speed and cost balance | Chargeable weight and final delivery cost |
| Large or bulky goods | Sea freight LCL or FCL | Lower cost per shipment unit | Destination charges and unloading conditions |
| Europe inland delivery | Rail freight | Balanced transit time and cost | Route availability and cargo eligibility |
| Goods from multiple suppliers | Consolidated door-to-door | One coordinated export shipment | Warehouse receiving schedule and packing |
| Predictable landed-cost delivery | DDP service review | Agreed customs and tax scope | Destination, importer and product eligibility |
DDP or DAP for Door-to-Door Shipping?
Door-to-door describes the physical transport scope. DDP and DAP are Incoterms® rules that allocate delivery, customs and cost responsibilities between seller and buyer. They are related, but they are not interchangeable.
A shipment can reach the receiver’s door while the buyer still acts as importer and pays duty or tax. Therefore, the quotation must identify the named place, importer of record, clearance party, duty treatment and any excluded destination charges.
For a detailed allocation of customs, tax and delivery responsibilities, compare DAP vs DDP shipping from China .
DDU is obsolete terminology and is not part of the current Incoterms rules. DAP is the modern term generally used when the buyer handles import clearance and import taxes. Read our DDU shipping terms guide before comparing older quotations.
Delivered Duty Paid
Subject to destination and cargo eligibility- The seller carries the import-clearance responsibility.
- Applicable import duties and taxes are the seller’s responsibility.
- Delivery is made to the named destination, ready for unloading.
- Local legal ability and cargo eligibility must be confirmed.
Delivered at Place
Buyer remains responsible for import formalities- The seller delivers to the named place, ready for unloading.
- The buyer handles import customs clearance.
- Import duty, VAT or GST is paid by the buyer.
- The buyer also arranges unloading unless otherwise agreed.
Standard Door-to-Door
The tax scope depends on the selected service- Pickup and final delivery are both included.
- Customs coordination may be provided by a courier or broker.
- The receiver may still need to pay import charges.
- Duty, tax and inspection costs must be confirmed before booking.
Port or Airport to Door
Useful when the supplier delivers cargo to origin- Service starts at the origin port, airport or warehouse.
- International freight and local delivery are coordinated.
- Origin pickup may not be included.
- Customs, tax and pickup exclusions still require confirmation.
What Determines Door-to-Door Shipping Cost from China?
There is no reliable universal price per kilogram for international door delivery. A useful quote must be based on the exact shipment and postcode, then state what is included at origin, during customs and at destination.
Actual and Chargeable Weight
Express and air freight compare actual weight with volumetric weight. The higher chargeable figure normally determines the freight cost.
Cargo Volume
Sea, rail and truck freight are strongly affected by CBM, pallet dimensions, container utilization and loading requirements. Use our CBM calculator for initial sea freight planning.
China Pickup Location
Supplier city, factory access, loading conditions and distance from the export warehouse or port affect the origin pickup cost.
Freight Method and Route
Express, air, sea, rail and truck services use different pricing structures, schedules, gateways and carrier surcharges.
Destination Postcode
Remote areas, islands, residential addresses and difficult-access delivery points may generate additional destination charges.
Customs and Duty Scope
DDP, DAP and receiver-paid arrangements create different responsibilities, tax exposure and clearance costs. Review our customs clearance support when importer requirements are unclear.
Product Category
Batteries, liquids, powders, branded goods and regulated products may require special routes, documents or carrier approval.
Delivery Conditions
Appointments, tail-lift vehicles, pallet unloading, waiting time and limited-access locations can affect the final delivery cost.
A low port-to-port rate is not always a low door-to-door cost.
Compare China pickup, origin handling, freight, customs, destination charges and final delivery as one scope. This prevents a cheap headline rate from becoming an expensive shipment after arrival.
How Long Does Door-to-Door Shipping from China Take?
Total delivery time includes pickup, origin handling, main carriage, customs release and final-mile delivery. Supplier production time is separate and should not be counted as freight transit time.
These broad ranges start after cargo and documents are accepted. They are for initial planning only and are not delivery guarantees.
Express Courier
Suitable for eligible parcels and serviceable destination postcodes.
Air Door-to-Door
Timing varies by flight schedule, customs clearance and local delivery.
Sea LCL Door-to-Door
Consolidation, port handling and destination deconsolidation add time.
Sea FCL Door-to-Door
Vessel schedules, port congestion and inland container delivery affect timing.
Rail Door-to-Door
Border transfers, terminal handling and local truck delivery must be included.

Common Goods for Door-to-Door Shipping
Standard commercial products are normally easier to route when the product name, material, intended use, value, packing and destination information are accurate.
Controlled or Sensitive Cargo
Some goods can move only through selected carriers or routes. Acceptance depends on documents, packaging, product specifications and destination regulations. Never ship prohibited or undeclared goods.

Common Door-to-Door Shipping Mistakes to Avoid
Many delays and unexpected charges begin before the shipment leaves China. Clear cargo data and a complete service scope reduce avoidable problems.
Quoting only by total weight
Carton dimensions are necessary because volumetric weight or CBM may determine the real freight cost.
Assuming door-to-door includes duty
Customs clearance and tax responsibility must be confirmed as DDP, DAP or another agreed arrangement.
Using vague product descriptions
Descriptions such as “parts,” “accessories” or “samples” may cause customs questions and classification delays.
Ignoring the final address type
A residence, warehouse, island, project site or limited-access location may require a different delivery plan.
Shipping controlled cargo without review
Batteries, liquids, powders, cosmetics and branded goods must be checked before booking.
Comparing only headline freight rates
Origin charges, destination handling, customs and final delivery determine the complete logistics cost.
Door-to-Door Shipping from China FAQ
These answers cover the most common questions about pickup, freight, customs, duty responsibility, transit time and final delivery.
What is door-to-door shipping from China?
It means the freight plan starts at an agreed pickup point in China and ends at an agreed destination address. A typical scope connects supplier pickup, export handling, international transport, customs coordination and final-mile delivery. The quote must still define which charges and customs responsibilities are included.
Does door-to-door shipping include customs clearance?
It can include customs-clearance coordination, but the written quotation decides the responsibility. Under a properly arranged DDP scope, import clearance and applicable duties and taxes are handled on the seller side. Under DAP, the buyer normally handles import formalities and pays those charges.
Is door-to-door shipping the same as DDP?
No. Door-to-door describes the physical transport scope. DDP is an Incoterm under which the seller assumes import clearance and import duty or tax responsibilities, subject to the contract and local law. A door-to-door shipment can instead move under DAP.
Who pays import duties and taxes?
The agreed service term decides this. DDP assigns import clearance and applicable import duties and taxes to the seller. Under DAP, the buyer normally manages import formalities and pays import duty, VAT, GST or other local customs charges.
How long does door-to-door shipping from China take?
Broad planning ranges are about 3–8 business days for eligible express shipments, 5–15+ days by air, 25–45+ days by rail on selected routes, 25–50+ days for sea FCL and 30–55+ days for sea LCL. Exact timing varies by route, capacity, customs and final delivery.
How is door-to-door shipping cost calculated?
Cost depends on actual or volumetric weight, CBM, supplier location, freight method, destination postcode, product category, customs scope and final delivery conditions. A packing list with carton-level dimensions and weight is required for an accurate quote.
Can VoltFreight collect goods from multiple suppliers?
Yes. Each supplier should provide the cargo-ready date, pickup address, contact details, carton count, dimensions and weight. Consolidation can reduce duplicated origin work, but enough time is needed to receive and check every shipment before export.
Can you deliver directly to Amazon FBA?
Yes, when the shipment and destination facility are eligible. FBA freight needs compliant labels, packaging, routing details and an appointment. Amazon is not the importer of record, so the importer and customs responsibilities must be arranged separately.
Can batteries, liquids or branded goods be shipped?
Some sensitive goods can move through selected routes, but they require review before booking. Send product photos, battery specifications, MSDS where applicable, ingredients, brand information and packaging details. Acceptance is never implied by a generic online quotation.
What information is required for a quotation?
Send the China pickup location, destination postcode and address type, product description, carton count, dimensions, gross weight, cargo value, ready date and any battery or special-handling details. Also confirm whether you want DDP or DAP. A packing list is the fastest starting point.
